5 years read about same sex parents

Recently a school teacher read a story to her 5 year old class. The story was about a little boy and his same sex parents.

Select a topic below and and post your Point that you want to make about it.
  • Why do you feel that this is way to early to tell children about homosexual lifestyles.
  • Why do you think it is appropriate for 5 year old children to know about homosexual lifestyles.
  • Do you think the teacher should be disciplined for intentially reading this type of story to this age group?

I do not think this is appropiate because what if the little ones believe. If my 5 year old came home and told me that they read a book about gays I would be very upset.

The teacher should not get in trouble for reading the story, but she should have check and made sure it would be okay with her students parents before she read the story. I do not think the story is appropiate for an age group of 5 years old.

Although Same Sex marriage/partnerships is becoming more prevelant, I do not feel it is appropiate ,especially for 5 year olds, to discuss same sex ANYTHING.

At 5 years old the kids worship the ground their teachers walk on. Any talking about same sex, or even sex in general, runs the risk of the 5 year old taking the view of the teachers.

It is not appropiate for the teacher to pass on beliefs that may not agree with what the child's parents are teaching them.

Well, I don't think that it is too early to start telling children about same sex parents. With all the big debate about same sex marriage there is going to be questions raised by children. In society innocense is something that doesn't last long. I don't think that it should be the teacher's responsibility. The first teachers that children ever have are their parents. It should be up to the parents to decide whether or not they want their children to know or understand same sex relationships.

At some point in time I believe that the kids should be aware of same sex parents, but I also believe that 5 years old is a little young to talk to them about such a topic. I think that the teacher just wanted her students to know about the things in the world today, she should have just thought it through alittle bit more before she read the story to her class

Yes, this teacher should be fired at the least if not spend jail time over it these 5 year old children need to be learning there abc's and numbers. They dont need to learn about homosexuals at this early age.

No, that is not appropiate! It's not a school teacher's place to tell students about homosexuals especially at 5 years old. The parents should tell their kids when they think it's time. Also, some of the parents might sue so that teachers pretty dumb.

I think that the teacher probably didn't mean to influence the children to be homosexual. The parents should be the people to tell their children about the difference between homosexuals and straight people. I wouldn't read something like that to a 5yr. old. Mine or anybody elses. It depends on what type of discipline. The teacher may be with or against homosexuals, and doesn't see anything wrong with reading something like that.

Teachers should leave controversial social issues out of the classroom! This is a totally unacceptible subject for 5 year olds!

b--in the truest book of knowledge is the HOLY BIBLE. God made man and woman
Not two of each to formulate the earth's population.
If this is what he wanted it would be found black and white in his word.
